Flat Stanley In the Philippines

I went to our mailbox yesterday and got a letter from my second grade buddy, Zach, from Missouri. Inside the envelope was a letter and a cut-out of a little boy named Flat Stanley. Zach asked me to show Stanley around the Philippines and take some pictures for him, so I decided to go all out to create a learning experience for Zach. I can’t wait to write the scrapbook and mail Stanley back!

It turns out this guy is famous! Lots of kids have read the book “Flat Stanley” by Jeff Brown. It is about a boy who gets flattened by a bulletin board in the night and experiences many adventures because he is really thin. So since Stanley has become our first visitor to the Philippines (and I know you would love to get mailed here for less than $1) I decided to give him the full tour. Here are some of our pictures together!

It’s amazing how many people we have cheered up because of Stanley! We took him to the mall, in a taxi, to the market with fish; we fed him a mango shake, walked him to school and even let the students read with him in the library. My sixth grade students decided to invite him to the banquet tomorrow night, so they are going to make him a suit to wear. I sure am going to miss Stanley once he travels back to the U.S.

What a BLAST!!! I wanna go,too, but I definitely would not meet the thin and skinny requirement. Ha! It is such a fun idea to get all those photos taken; it cheers up everybody. I'm still chuckling.

Ha ha! Sounds like stories I've heard of people stealing garden gnomes and taking them on wild photo adventures, then returning the gnome along with a fabulous photo journal to the bewildered owners! What a cool idea! I will be chuckling throughout today.

I hope that Flat Stanley isn't allergic to mango shakes like Stephen is! ~Jess

Yeah, I've heard of that gnome story too! Someone from here told me they knew the guy who did it.

I hope he's not allergic either!
