Eid'l Fitr

Today, October 24th, was declared by the President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as a nationwide holiday. This is because the Muslim month of fasting is ending today with the Feast of Ramadhan. The president said this would help promote cultural understanding and integration. This holiday is to give "the entire Filipino nation the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in the observance and celebration of Eid'l Fitr."

The above information was taken from a Filipino news website. I think it is very interesting to have a holiday on a Tuesday. We just got back into a routine of school, had one full day of teaching on Monday, and then we are on another holiday. Well, it worked out for us because we are taking a modular on Special Education at the seminary, so we were able to meet for a full day. It was wonderful to spend the day learning. I definitely also want to learn more about the practices and beliefs of the Muslim Filipinos, but I have not yet met any personally. Until then, I will just follow the nation in observing the holiday Eid'l Fitr.
