We are having fun being substitute parents. It is a lot different for me always needing to be responsible for two other people. Thankfully Nate and I can share that responsibility. We are learning our views on parenting as the girls ask us questions like, "If I eat this asparagus, then can I have ice cream?"
Karen, the older girl, asked if we could have a badminton tournament. I have never really played a game before, but I was proud of her for coming up with a fun and productive idea. So yesterday we spent the whole day making double-elimination tournament brackets for the 12 players, borrowing the rackets from the school, reserving the 5 courts at the local badminton facility, and we even made an official certificate for the Badminton Champion Award!
Finally at 3pm we all met at the badminton courts and organized the tournament, using the official rule book as our guide. Everyone seemed to have a great time playing, especially Karen and Mr. Becker. I got out early of course, but in the end it was down to 5 or 6 players.
Karen and Mr. Becker faced each other in a very intense match. Neither of them wanted to lose, but Mr. Becker won the match! Someone else won the tournament, and we gave the official ceremonies. I think the best part of it all was seeing Karen come out of her shell and really get into something she enjoys. Oh, I think I am becoming a proud mother!

Oops! Make that "project" not porject. Now you can be proud of my spelling.
Badminton is a lot of fun! Maybe you can schedule more tourneys like this one. Congratulations!
